10:45 to 11:30      Choice Time and Small Group Activities

MSPCS INFANTS

In our infant class, we place an emphasis on a loving atmosphere and hands-on learning through play and guided activities. Our students are encouraged to play and learn both together and independently. At MSPCS we have a clear vision of age appropriate curriculum and recognize the importance of teaching to the whole child. Our nurturing preschool teachers share the school’s vision to promote Spiritual knowledge, develop emotional growth and cultivate life readiness. Our school mission and vision begins with the preschool and continues through 5th Grade.

MSPCS Preschool teachers instruct students using the HighScope Curriculum. The High Scope Infant Curriculum helps teachers create an environment that is both nurturing and educating for even the youngest learners. In the High Scope program, teachers support infant’s natural desire to be active learners. Active participatory learning is the core of the curriculum, defined as young children constructing knowledge through their natural play and interactions with the environment, events and other people. As children explore and follow their intentions, they engage with High Scope’s integrated curriculum content, called the key developmental indicators (KDIs). The KDIs represents what children discover on their daily active learning adventures. Ongoing child observation and assessment is an essential component of the High Scope infant curriculum which allows teachers to assess children progress and plan meaningful learning experiences.

 

In the High Scope Preschool Curriculum, learning is focused on the following eight content areas, which are based on the dimensions of school readiness identified by the National Education Goals Panel.

  1. Approaches to learning
  2. Social and emotional development
  3. Physical development and health
  4. Language, literacy, and communication
  5. Mathematics
  6. Creative arts
  7. Science and technology
  8. Social studies

While learning in these content areas prepares children for later schooling, High Scope takes the learning process beyond traditional academic subjects by applying methods that promote independence, curiosity, decision making, cooperation, persistence, creativity, and problem solving in young children.
